How would referral fees work when you are bringing tenants to that apartment complex. Me as a real estate agent brings the apartment complex a renter to that listing agent of that apartment complex. We will say they do offer a finders fee, a flat fee, or percentage fee does that listing agent and the refferal agent sign a referral contract? Or how would that work?

Question: Are the referring agents entitled to ongoing referral fees on subsequent transactions once the referred client purchases a property? Case in point, recentlly I received a referral, closed the deal and paid a referral fee. If the same client makes additional new purchases or list properties with me, am I obligated to pay referral fees going forward?

I am a realtor- salesperson retiring soon. Can I do referrals as a salesperson not connected with an brokerage or do I have to be a broker to refer. Can I refer being a sales person without working for a company.

In reply to Kay Prui. Hi Kay! I'm sorry to hear your client isn't happy with the referral. But if your client has a buyer's agreement with the other realtor, they need to cancel the buyer's agreement. I'm not a real estate attorney and I am not giving legal advice. But, typically the referral agreement doesn't matter if the buyer never purchases with the referral agent. But they may be entitled to compensation if there's a buyer's agreement in place. Check with your broker and get them involved to help resolve this sticky situation.

Do you have to terminate a Refferal Agreement? The client I referred is not happy with the realtor. They have not been communicating well.

Is there a time limit on a referral? It took 2 years for the sale & now the realtor says he needs to look at his expenses with them before paying me.

I am considering selling a piece of property my sister and I inherited. My sister is a broker and is asking for a referral fee to list the property with another broker. If a broker is also a partial owner of the property being sold, is it ethical to ask for a referral fee? If so, isn't this something that should have been discussed with the other co-owner prior to giving the listing?
